Restructuring your business
As a business grows it will face a number of external factors beyond it’s control, such as new markets, changes in demand or the need to improve working practices and processes internally. Therefore it is common for organisations to restructure in order to assist in improving the efficiency of the business and to assist the business in achieving its goals.
Planning and communication are critical for any restructure. You should have a clear idea of your objectives and prepare an organisational chart to illustrate how your business will look once the restructuring is completed.
Be aware that you may need to take account of the Information and Consultation of Employees (ICE) Regulations. The ICE came into force in April 2005 and initially applied only to businesses with 150 or more employees but from April 2008 they have affected all businesses with 50 or more employees. Under these regulations, employees have a statutory right to be informed and consulted about anything which affects their employment or which involves a substantial change to work organisation.
When restructuring your business it is essential that the processes are clearly documented and all appropriate legal requirements are followed.
