Why Leicester?
With a population of 280,000, Leicester is the largest city in the East Midlands and the tenth largest in the country.
Leicester is a city that looks to the future. Over the past few years the city hs undergone a significant transformation with a new shopping, cultural and commercial centre. Around the corner is a new science and technology park and further development of the city waterways.
The City of Leicester is one of the most exciting, multicultural societies in the country, and plays host to a number of world famous festivals, including the largest Diwali celebrations outside of India.
The Arts are well served with museums, the National Space Centre, theatres, a wide variety of pubs, clubs, music venues and multiplex cinemas. If you are feeling hungry, you can eat your way around the world in the City’s restaurants.
If you are looking for sporting action, Leicester has that too, whether you want to participate, or just watch some of the UK’s top Rugby, Football and Cricket teams. Leicester is also surrounded by beautiful parks and countryside, and there are many leisure and fitness facilities across the region.
When it comes to shopping, variety is what you would expect from a city of Leicester’s size, and it doesn’t disappoint, with something to suit every taste and budget. There are two major indoor centres, The Shires and The Haymarket, where you will find a variety of well known high street stores, speciality shops and eating places. St Martin’s Square is typical of the way in which the city centre has been sensitively refurbished with pavement cafés and teashops providing the perfect place to relax. Leicester also has one of the largest traditional markets in Europe, as well as the ‘Belgrave Mile’, famous for its abundance of sari and jewellery shops and restaurants.
Both the city and county have an excellent range of housing to rent and buy, and prices compare favourably with the national average.
