Edward Hands & Lewis Solicitors
About Us

Committed to Our Community

Edward Hands & Lewis grew from local roots, and those roots run deep. From our very first office to our growing network of branches across the East Midlands, we have always believed that a law firm should be more than a business — it should be a genuine force for good in the places it calls home. Our community work is not a side-note; it is woven into how we operate every single day.

How We Give Back

Eight Ways We Make a Difference

Our community programme is built around eight pillars — each one a genuine commitment, not a tick-box exercise.

  • Charity Support

Staff vote annually for a local charity to champion exclusively across all branches.

  • Community Discounts

We offer preferential rates to local community groups, charities, and not-for-profit organisations.

  • Volunteering

Our teams dedicate time to hands-on volunteer work, from food banks to community clean-ups.

  • Education

We visit local schools and universities, mentoring the next generation of legal professionals.

  • Sponsorship

EHL sponsors grassroots events, sports clubs, and local initiatives across our branch network.

  • Environmental

Branch-level environmental initiatives support local green spaces and sustainable practices.

  • Career Development

Mock interviews, CV clinics, and work experience placements for people re-entering the workforce.

  • Early Years

Nursery story sacks and the annual Sunflower Competition inspire curiosity from the very start.

Real Stories

Our Impact in Action

Community work only means something when it translates into real lives changed. Here are three examples of how EHL brings its values off the page.

Education

School Visits & the Student Support Programme

Each year, EHL solicitors visit local schools to demystify the law and inspire young people. Through our Student Support Programme, we offer one-to-one mentoring to sixth-form and university students exploring a legal career — providing guidance, real-world perspective, and a direct connection to the profession.

  • Annual school visits across all branches
  • One-to-one mentoring for sixth-form and university students
  • Dedicated mentors drawn from our qualified solicitor team
Career Preparation

CV Support & Mock Interview Clinics

We believe everyone deserves the tools to present their best self. EHL runs free CV review sessions and realistic mock interview clinics for young people and career-changers in our local areas, helping bridge the gap between potential and opportunity.

  • Free CV review clinics open to the community
  • Realistic mock interviews with qualified feedback
  • Open to school leavers, graduates, and career-changers alike
Early Years

Nursery Story Sacks & the Sunflower Competition

From the very beginning, EHL nurtures curiosity. We donate story sack packs to local nurseries to support early literacy, and run our beloved annual Sunflower Competition — inviting young children to grow and measure sunflowers, bringing joy and a love of nature to classrooms and families alike.

  • Story sack donations to nurseries across our branch areas
  • Annual Sunflower Competition for nursery and primary-age children
  • Prizes and certificates for every child who takes part
Charities & Sponsorship

One Charity. Full Commitment.

Each year, every member of EHL staff casts a vote for the local charity they believe deserves the firm's full support. The winning charity receives something more valuable than a one-off donation.

The Annual Staff Vote

Democracy is at the heart of our charity model. Each member of staff nominates and votes for a local charity they feel passionate about. The chosen charity becomes EHL's exclusive charitable partner for the full year — meaning every branch, every team, and every event is directed toward that single cause.

We deliberately promote only the chosen charity rather than spreading effort thinly across many. Focused support, we believe, creates far greater impact than gestures spread too wide.

Community Giving — Staff Benefit

2 Community Days

After every charity fundraising event or volunteer day, EHL staff are awarded two additional days off — paid leave as a thank-you for their time and energy. This is our way of saying that giving back is not an ask on top of your job; it is a valued part of it.

Grassroots Sponsorship

Beyond the annual charity partner, EHL branches sponsor local sports clubs, community events, and neighbourhood initiatives throughout the year — because strong communities are built one small act of generosity at a time.
